It has been a little bit quiet on this blog for a while. The reasons for this are extensive and time-consuming structural changes I’m implementing in my digital life. Beside my preparation works for my future iMac Retina (I want a clean Desktop and Download-folder before I upgrade), I moved all my webhosting-business to a new hosting-provider.
The latter is also the topic of my today’s blogpost. Why is this a productivity-matter? Because I’m saving so much time now by not having to talk to incapable support-staff!
With my old hosting-provider, every time there was a problem on the server (and this happened a lot of times), I had to write three to five eMails until it was fixed – taking up to one hour or even more. I don’t know where and how they hired their supporters, but sometimes I got the feeling they just walked through the streets of Mumbai and addressed arbitrarily people like: “Hey! Do you speak English? Yes? So you are perfect for us! No computer-experience at all!? No Problem!”
Now I’m with Webfaction. What a relief! Now, when I contact the support (not because the server would have had a failure, just to ask some setup-questions), I get an answer which shows my concern was understood and (moreover!) has a skilled answer.
On top of that one gets a super-slick configuration-interface to administer all aspects of the account. A complete different league than cPanel, which I always thought is a kind of a mess. At Webfaction you get an elaborated concept of separated domains, applications and websites which enables you to establish your web-presence just the way you want. You can even run your own daemons and access them via a dedicated port!
So if you happen to maintain a website, have a look at their offer (you can try their offer free of charge – no credit card required). It can make your life so much easier…
